Drawing Hands in Texas Holdem

While everyone can draw hands in Texas Holdem, not everyone can do it properly. The fact is that knowing the appropriate way to draw and form hands in the game is an absolute must if you want to be able to compete with the big players.

First of all, a drawing hand can be a pair of cards that need to be improve to gain any value, but it can also be a made hand that needs to be improved. For instance, if you are holding a 77, and the flop shows a 10-7-K, the draw gives you the set.

To complete a straight draw, assume that you are holding a QJ and the flop gives you a T-9-K. Of course, be certain that, unless the pot is very big, your straight draw should be with an open ended straight, never an inside one.

When drawing hands, your Texas Holdem strategy should be to do it with as many players in the hand as possible. The fact is that these hands do not always work out, and more players increases the odds that you will get other combinations instead, which could help you win.

Another reason of course, is that when your Texas Holdem strategy involves trying to make a draw for a flush, it means you will have to pay to see more cards. Hence, the need for more players who will contribute to the pot to make it worthwhile.

When you do complete a drawing hand in Texas Holdem, such as a two pair, straight or flush, you should try to get as much money from the pot as possible. You can either slow play, or if you are in the late position, you can go for a check raise.

Of course, getting the nuts and slow playing means also having to avoid issuing tells. You do not want the other players on the Poker table to see that you have the big hands until it is too late.

Drawing hands in Texas Holdem is not as simple as some believe, and it is most certainly not an action that should be automated. It will depend on what kind of hand you are trying to make and also the situation you find yourself in. The more you study and learn about drawing hands, the more pots you will be able to take home.
